As a working drummer with nearly 50 years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of receiving instruction and playing with numerous bands over the years. But in December of 2022, I began studying with Josh Orlando, and it was a turning point in my drumming journey. From the moment I first heard Josh play, I was captivated by the effortless flow and mastery of his technique. I knew then that I wanted to learn from him.
Within minutes of my first lesson, Josh identified several flaws in my technique that no one had ever pointed out before. That day marked the beginning of a whole new chapter in my drumming. Over the following months, I took several lessons and sent Josh multiple videos of my live performances. He provided invaluable feedback, helping me understand what I was doing right and what needed work.
After about six months of focused effort, Josh was pleased with my hand and finger technique. The improvement in my playing is nothing short of remarkable. Everything feels easier, and I now have far more room for nuance and dynamics in my playing. What once seemed difficult now feels effortless. My bandmates have noticed a significant difference in my sound and technique, and their feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
I will continue to study with Josh, as his depth of knowledge and ability to simplify complex concepts is truly a gift. Beyond being an incredible teacher, Josh is one of the finest people I’ve ever met. If you’re looking to improve your drumming, Josh is absolutely the person you need.
Jacqueline Davis – UPenn Class of 2025
I had always dreamed of being a drummer since I was little, but I didn’t get the chance to pursue it until college. Starting something so new at that stage was exciting but also intimidating. From the moment I met Josh, he created a welcoming and supportive environment that immediately put me at ease. His teaching style is patient and encouraging, making it easy to embrace the learning process without fear of mistakes. Josh is not only incredibly skilled but also one of the most personable and kind instructors you’ll ever meet. Our lessons have quickly become one of the best parts of my week.
